Yes there is carbon in the canister filter.

Sorry to highjack your thread, but have a question for someone smarter than me. I was once told that maintaining a proper Alk level (7+), is important to keeping a fish's slime coat. Any truth to that?

I feel like Im constantly worrying about my tanks. One has coral and fish which stays cloudy no matter what. I can't get my stupid Octo HOB Skimmer to work. The Diatoms won't go away. I'm just at a loss. I try everything I read here and so far no success. Parameters are perfect in the big tank. I'm annoyed about not have a crystal clear tank.

As I tell many- take time to enjoy the tank and fret less about the water as fish or coral will often indicate an issue. Also remember fish don't talk - Test kits do.

I gave my dad my 2 clowns, 1 firefish, nassarius snails, urchin and hermits about 4 months ago. He has never done a water change. Just keeps the ATO topped off.

They are all happy. Though I come by every so often to test the tank. Salinity has dropped from 1.026 to 1.024 since i first setup the tank. I do plan to give him some GSP since they are very hardy.

I have tried priming it. I've moved the collector cup up and down. The microbubbles are driving me crazy so I put some filter floss to reduce the amount. It always just bubbles up with water. I've watched a lot of videos and I just can't figure it out. This us my makeshift debris collection. Don't laugh.

This tank is rocky and fish only. One octopus. No dropper.

Oh you mean a topoff? I manually top off. Or did you mean for all for reef. My rock and fish only is the one who has a high Alk. I was using a PH Booster which I know raises alkalinity. Do you feel that's the cause?

Ah, maybe the ph booster is the cause, just that alkalinity seems very high to get to without dosing.

Regarding the issue I had - the dropper I used for the Alk test (or maybe test tube) had been contaminated so was throwing the test results way off. A thorough clean of the test equipment resolved the issue.

Once a week, 20% typically. Its exhausting my brain .

I really think it's my new salt. I never had this issue before. Tested tank 2 and it's 16.7.

Salinity, temp and ammonia, that's all, if you don't want a lot of algae control nitrates and phosphates. I think carbon is a must for Fowlr, also probably use some coralline accelerator so you don't get the tank covered in algae.
