looking to put a new return pump on my tank its 120 gallon with 55 gallon sump what pump would you use looking for some flow but keep the noise down too
so what pump should i get?

I don't run one but I agree with JR above - an Eheim is a great quiet pump and is energy efficient as well (well, as efficient as a return pump can be).

running a Ehiem now just need to get more flow i love the pump wish they made bigger

How about a Quiet One pump? You can certainly get more flow with one of them and they are fairly quiet - but not as quiet as the Eheims IMO. They are reasonably priced, however and are fairly efficient power wise.

I've heard the Octopus water blaster pumps are nice. Looking to get one for my 180.

I'm runnning a Eheim 1262 for my 90gal. I have a friend that just upgraded to a 180gal tank and he plans on using the ATB Flow Star 1500, from what I heard that is a really good pump.

Ocean Runner 3500 or Eheim 1262. I use only OR pumps myself based on testing results I obtained using a Kill A Watt meter, 1" flow meter, 10 psi pressure gauge and a digital thermometer. The OR 3500 outperformed the Eheim slightly and blew the Mag 9.5, Quiet One 4000 and Via Aqua pumps away. I owned two Quiet Ones and both literally caught on fire after runing so hot I could not comfortable lay my hand on them, imagine how much heat they were transferring to the tank water. Some of the Octopus pumps appera to come from the same factory as the Ocean Runners and have similar specs.

The new Maxijet Utility pumps look quite promising, based on the one I tried out. I still have a bucket full of Mag pumps for when I need some flow, and for my reef tank's needs, I use Dart pumps.

Eheim 1262 on my 150gal and eheim 1260 on my 70gal.

I use a atb flowstar 3200 on my 220gal...;)
Best pumps hands down.. Super quiet, askoll motor, very low wattage draw and heat transfer pushing 3200gph...;)

I run an Eheim 1262 on my 120 and i have to dial it back some. If i'm not mistaken Ben(Bn251) runs that flowstar , maybe he'll chime in.

I use a sequence external pump to run everything in my tank. I am running 2 returns, a dual beckett MRC skimmer, fuge, and various reactors. Seems to be just the right amount and alot less heat and electric! Just my 2 cents

run 2 mag 7's on a 135 long...a little over kill, could get away with a mag 9.5 or 12...plan on going with one external pump in future

My main return pump on my 240 is a Poseidon P-4. It is absolutely the quietest pump I have ever used.
I swapped out my chiller pump from a Poseidon P-3 to a Eheim 1262. Great pump also. I may switch it back however.
I also used a Ocean Runner 2500 on my 40 gallon tank. Not bad either, but after about 10 months of use, I do have some startup issues.
