I’m trying to figure out how tall I can go with a canopy on a 40b before it looks ugly. Plan on adding MH with LED bars. Wife will shoot me if it doesn’t look good lol.

Could always pick up a piece of card board , cut to mimic the size and when find the size you want make that the canopy height :)

That’s a good idea but the tank ain’t setup ( new tank in new condo )
Wondering if anyone else has built a canopy for the 40b with halides. The shallowest halides I could find are 5” high. At what hight should I run the halides from the water?

I would vote 12” for aesthetics.
Would make the canopy 2/3 of the aquarium height. Or do 1/3 of the stand height. But i dont use MH lights to know their ideal height from the surface. Could increase height with wider molding as your eye will view the molding as a frame to the box, not part of the box.

A nice crown molding on the top would definitely give me brownie points with the wife :D
Thx for the ideas
