So this subject is vast and temperature ranges from tank to tank, area to area.
So please let us know what temperature you like to keep your tank at:
1. Type of setup: fish only, mixed reef etc
2. Avg temperature
3. Means of cooling or heating

I use the Apex system and have matched Fiji Weather so it goes up and down depending on the season.

1. Mixed reef
2. Ranges from 77 - 82 degrees
3. I have a redundant system of 2 Heaters, so they simply run more in the "Summer Months."

1. Fish only
2. 75-76
3. Standard heaters 1200w but only ever get turned on when for 2-3 month per year. cool by means of basement fish room and exhaust fan for room. Total volume 800 gallons. Tank is fine l acrylic so great insulator.

3. old school, submersible heater that I’ve had for years. This article got me thinking a bit about the risk associated with this heater....so thanks!

1. 120 gal mixed reef
2. 77.6-78.1 in the winter, 78-80 in the summer
3. I use a Apex to control heaters and fan on top of my tank. Fan mainly cools the T5's which causes the most heat addition in the summer.

Was just 2x Jagers at a little over half required wattage, but recently added an inkbird for superior protection.

my thermostats in my house stays set of 71 pretty much year round. The house is always between 70 and 72. I have one heater in my sump running thru my Apex. It almost never comes on. I have screen tops and LED lighting. Water temp has never been an issue for me.
