What the heck is this???

I find pieces of this on my Flipper magnetic cleaner and some on the substrate this afternoon - I did NO maintenance and nothing was added to the tank, nor anyone was home.

I thought it might be some sort of 'lifeform', but I don't believe it is as it really doesn't move.

Anyone ever seen this before?? It's quite weird and creepy looking.
