i recently bought a nikon d5100 and would like to eventually purchase a macro lens to take pics of my corals. my question is what brands are you guys using and what are the major things i should look for when shopping for one? there are so many different ones. lol

The Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR is a beast. You will love the Sharpness and Bokeh.

This lens can be used at a portrait lens too.

I like the Tokina 100mm 2.8 as much as the Nikon macro and it's about half the cost:
Tokina 100mm f/2.8 Macro AT-X PRO D AF

However, it doesn't autofocus on a camera without a built-in motor and I can't remember if the D5100 has one or not.
