Suppose you went to work one day and you are offered a huge promotion which required you to move cross country.
What would you do with your tank and why?

For me, I would require them to help with my expenses especially with moving my tank as it is " COMING WITH". I refuse to start all over especially with equipment and my livestock in which some cant be replaced (hawaii specimens)

I moved from Florida to Texas (then back to Florida after a year) with a ~45 gallon system and that was stressful enough. If I had it to do over again and had a larger system, I might take a whole week or two off to move the household stuff and then fly back to get a rental truck to move all of the aquarium stuff by itself. I feel like it would be somewhat less stressful to just worry about one piece of the puzzle at a time.

If this was all done on the company dime I would definitely make it a multi-part move.

I guess it depends on the tank, how long its been up, livestock, etc. It would be great if they factored in moving my tank part of expenses although I don't expect many companies would do that. If its a different state I'd rather start over fresh then move everything.

I bought and moved my first large reef tank a few months ago from a previous owner. 4hrs trip one way + 2 hours shut down time + many more hours standing it all back up. With 12 fish too. It was extremely stressful. But tbh now that I've done it once, I feel like it wouldn't actually be worried at all if I had to do it again. Don't get me wrong, it was hell, but I think I'd know exactly how to do it without a problem now.

With where my tank was at I probably would just start over.
Now, if I had a large reef tank that was well established? It is either coming with me or I am staying right where I am at.

If it were part of your career/trade, working goals that the promotion was part of, I would do it.
I guess it would also depend your age and where you are in life. Are you happy with how you are doing professionally in your current position.

Depends on where I am going. Most places you can house a 90G tank. My 7' 210 may not be practical if it doesn't fit in said living arrangements.

I would need to research the Saltwater scene heavily. need to see if there is a good group or good LFS in area.

lots of factors.

I am always up for setting up a new larger or better system. Do things better/ different then last time.

i would probably sell everything and start fresh. Keeping a tank running with everything else that is required when moving across country would be hard.

That said i would probably frag most my corals, and try to find a local to be a caretaker of my favorite fish and 4-6 months down the road when i had a new tank up and running have everything shipped over

I move from Ca to Va 4 years ago without an aquarium. It was hard enough.
