What's happening with this torch? Any thoughts?

Noticed the spot on the right side of the torch, in the back. Looks like a piece of the torch is "loose" and shell showing? It's been looking just fine. No indicators before now. I'll take another look when it retracts a little tonight.

Could also be irritated from sand blowing on it.

Tank is 10 months old. All parameters were checked just last night and in range, including calcium. I considered moving it just off the sand bed after doing some reading on here this morning. Will a move irritate it more at this point?

possibly. i would do an iodine dip to rule out any bacterial infection from accidental handling.

just my 2 cents. had something similar happen to an old candy cane coral and it bounced back better than ever.

Sorry but parameters in range or parameters are good are the most common thing said on these forums. In order to get the proper answers we will need the actual parameters. Not saying yours aren't acceptable, it's just the most common thing said before we actually do locate an issue.

Also at 10 months you should be in the ugly stage still. How is the rest of the tank doing? This can skew numbers if algae is present.

If nitrate is at 0 that is a problem. There's no nutrients in the system that the coral use as food. Also alk and mag aren't listed. These can be very or the most important factors also

I'll re-test right now to be sure. But if this is the case, what do I need to do?

Alkalinity and magnesium play a huge part with LPS. Those numbers should be attained before any other action. As far as the nitrate goes you can just feed more. Try to get it around 5 and keep it there.

Nitrate does look to be zero. Best advice I can give it feed a little more than usual. In the mean time get a set of salifert tests for mag, cal, alk, nitrate and phosphate. The API aren't the best and could end up costing you live stock in the long run.

Finding out the missing parameters should be top priority. Even if you have to get your LFS to measure them for you.

After the dip. Will watch parameters. Attempt the intimidating magnesium test. and wait. Not going to stress any more. It is what it is I guess.
