Whats killed fish?

Hi đź‘‹ im andy im very new to this hobby but I did do my research for a good 6 months before beginning but im still a little out my depth so I'll start at top.

I've got a red sea reefer 250 it is second hand. I had two gobies two clowns and a shrimp and a few CUC it was started in January and fish went in end of March.

So to begin all my fish have died yesterday morning there had been a bit of an algea bloom that I removed and am treating.

I tested last week and my numbers were all OK. I tested again after my fish died and the numbers were as follows

440 ppm calcium
Water hardness 89.5
Ph 8.3
Ammonia 0.25ppm
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 15ppm
Phosphate 10 ppm im aware it could be this ive order a reactor and media and I used microbe lift.

Today my shrimp was dead and I went chasing any other problems i found i have around 45 volts stay in the tank. I could feel it on a cut I have.
I have went through all my equipment that was bought brand new and the results were as follows

Return pump 12v stray jebao
Heater 14v Stray szleam
Power head 9v stray fluval
Skimmer 7v stray bubble magus
Everything 45v

So im wondering is all this equipment faulty or are these acceptable numbers and how do I treat the watter to think about getting more fish are there any parameters im missing ive switched the lights off for now and I've installed a uv steriliser for the algea. I really want to nail this here before I cause myself any more problems and kill more livestock. Thanks.

I don’t know what the water hardness number means. It is an unusual parameter. Is tis alkalinity? What are the units?

Salinity would be another water parameter to follow.

Unless electricity flows through an organism, I don’t see how a voltage relative to ground which the inhabitants are not in contact with can harm them.

So ammonia has been that high for how long? That explains part of the issue especially with the inverts. Was the current in the sump or display tank?
 
When I see someone say that they have an ammonia of 0.25 ppm, I immediately think that they're using an API test kit and are reading a borderline color as 0.25ppm.

Hardness isn't really a term we use in salt water, we use Carbonate Hardness (KH, because Germany).

As someone who has worked with electronics my entire adult life, I find it extremely suspicious that you are measuring stray voltage from every device and that it adds up somehow. this is extremely unusual. I personally believe that stray voltage is not the culprit even when people are "sure" that it is 90% of the time, at least.

I don't believe that the phosphorus would kill fish, I think that's more of a concern for the corals. I could be wrong on that.

How did you measure the "stray voltage." What device did you use, what setting was it on, and where did you measure to and from?
 
Andy, I agree with IceNein, stray voltage - no. What was your salinity and what did you use to treat your tank for the algae. What are you using to measure ammonia? I would be more concerned with an o2 problem.
 
What kind of algae? what did you treat it with or what did you do? Was this before the fish died?

I'd ignore 'stray voltage' , as anything you are measuring is probably nothing more than induced voltage which is harmless.

You mention treating Algae - how were you treating it?
 
Andy, I agree with IceNein, stray voltage - no. What was your salinity and what did you use to treat your tank for the algae. What are you using to measure ammonia? I would be more concerned with an o2 problem.
My salinity is 1.025 so its good I got a bottle to treat hair algea I'll attach a photo and it was manually removing it. I also bought a uv steriliser.

I was trying to bring the ammonia down with amo lock and water changes i did two 50 percent changes over ten days. The current was stronger in the sump but could be felt in the display

Sorry that number is the K H no . Salinity was good I check that daily it was 1.025

Maybe a combo of the shocks and huge water changes, ammo lock really doesnt work from my experience. I had a heater explode and had two fish jump from the current and stress. I was able to fix that issue with water changes. But ammonia was 0. I think it was probably a combo unfortunately.
 
Andy, I looked up the "Anti Hair Algae" product you used and it appears to be a freshwater product only and contains a Ph buffer. I would start there and would not use it until verifying it can be used in a Marine Aquarium. It said more instructions are under the label.
