I see threads all the time about things people wish they knew about reefing. Or threads related to "if you could go back and give yourself one piece of advice what would it be" ect...
What I want to know is, What about reefing do you wish you DIDN'T know? Is there even anything? Interested to see the responses.

It was on Reddit and facebook everyone I met here is surprisingly nice lol that’s why I’m only on here. I even met a fish mentor here who is helping me daily now!
Yeah, one of the reef subreddits can be very gatekeepy and judgemental, and just generally unhelpful lol

I wish I didn't know, how hard it is to make local friends within the hobby.

The only way to really enjoy others tanks is online.

Talking "hobby" is mainly online.

Clubs seem to be dieing and shrinking.

Nobody looks at your tank the way you do.
Exactly! I occasionally try to get friends i know with freshwater tanks to get into saltwater so we can shoot the breeze about it. If I try and talk to any other friends or family about it, I can see their eyes glaze over :face-with-tears-of-joy:

I wish I didn’t know what cyanoacrylate glue feels like when it gets on you! “I’m just doing one quick thing I don’t need gloves,” I said. Never again!
I have the perfect gif for this but I cant post it :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Someone once posted a video on here of two travel vloggers who joined a boat somewhere in SE asia, where they went free diving with locals to capture reef fish.

The video start interesting but it got very sad. The fish were all thrown into a hold, then had their bodies pricked to relieve the gas build up. Many, many did not make it to the mainland, and as we know, many do not make it through the distribution end of the supply chain.

Like seeing how a sausage is made :(

The liquid stuff is like acid! And the fumes are awful.

It would be nice not to be aware of all the things that can go wrong :)

I enjoy my tank, but never get to look at it in wonder like everyone else does. (My tank is in a public office) I have to view it through a more critical lense of what is ok and what is at risk.

That the health of my reef would impact my mental health
I can 100% relate to this. Mainly towards the end when I ended up tearing it all down. I was mentally and physically exhausted and stressed

I was going to say the same thing. I wish I didn’t know that fish are still taken from the ocean and could just believe that they are all tank bred.

I wish I didn’t know what 30+ bristleworm spines felt like when embedded in my fingertip

How much i would want to keep upgrading and going bigger... :)
When my wife and I got our tank, we were fine with the size. Now? We want to go bigger(100g or so), haha.
