I admit I don't keep up
...Anyway I noticed that ZigZag pattern in the popular lighting schedule on AI's site ...what are the origins of that zig zag pattern and what exactly is it supposed to do? any actual studies or data somewhere?

Gives corals a break from such high intensity.

Also note, that you might need to decrease the intensity as a whole since David's tank is super deep.

May be off topic but I’d solidly wager the success of David saxby’s system has very little to do with lighting. It’s a massive water volume which is ridiculously stable, well fed, old and mature. I’d put the health of the tank on those factors over the zig zag thing.

thanks Dank …but I get it on the one hand but wouldn’t it be effectively the same to split the difference between the peaks and valleys and leave it there?
Trying to wrap me head around it

I was trying to find a video of him speaking about his light schedule, but could not find it. If you hear him explain it, then it will make sense or at least I think it will :)

thanks btw,
would you or anyone know where this ab+ thing came from and did the original incorporate the zigzag? BTW what features/attributes make a ab+ schedule and what made it so popular?

Pardon me, I still have a Tek T5 and Kessils so AIs are new to me…
outta scope but I don’t see anyway to download schedules on the app btw?

You can dig some information out of here..
Don't believe there are any good "studies" on it.
Any real effects could be due to a number of things and it really isn't "defined".

I asked Dana once about the cloud mode on orpheks which is a similar idea to the zigzag pattern and he replied it takes corals too long to adjust for any practical effect other than reducing the overall lighting, so I didn’t see much of a point of running clouds. If I stated that wrong hopefully he will correct me.
