I recently noticed the tip of one of my Acros is looking chewed up. Can anyone tell me what might be wrong with it and what to do about it? Thanks

Looks like a scrape or nick, perhaps accidental? I would frag it right up to where you see healthy tissue so that you get nice clean growth from that point. You'll see scar tissue if you let it heal on it's own.

Looks healthy, so it should recover quickly within a week or two. Keep an eye on it that's for sure.

Your tang cracked the tip and it's re-healing. Just my guess. The coral looks very healthy otherwise.

Completely agree; it's simply a mechanical injury. It was bumped by something; unknowingly by you perhaps (we've all done it), else by a fish.

id frag the dead part off.
You could; either way it will be fine. Leaving it alone might result in it looking "odd" as mentioned above.

Nah, it's just blunt force trauma.

I would also guess it was the tang. Happened to one of mine before. Cut off that tip, will heal up rather quickly.

If you have been able to rule out what has been mentioned above... Maybe there is too much flow?

FWIW, this happen in my tank when an acro grew to close to the flow from a MP40. When this happens it usually doesn't look like a clean break (like when accidentally bumped ect). It looked more as if the tissue was being blown back. While it still continued to try to grow, the patterns were different in the area closest to the high flow coming from the MP40.

Let me borrow it for a week and my Angel fish can trim back all the other branches for you as well. Corals get broke all the time. Dont sweat it.

Haha. thanks for the offer, but I'll have pass on that one.

Thanks everyone for all the replies. It probably got bumped by my tang. It's looking as if it's healed up pretty good now.
