where does this wire go? (MH retrofit wirering help)

OK I have 2 250w retrofit's to install. 1 SE and 1 DE, I get how to wire the + and - wires, that's no problem. I'm just wondering where the ground wirer goes? :embarrassed:do I just attach it to the reflector, like on one of the mounting screws?

guess I'm just nervous and don't want to ruin anything. :after_boom:
 
yes the reflector is where you would want to mount it. A lot of people will cut it off and not use it at all.

Are you talking about the neutral? Sometimes theres 3 wires thats why I am asking. The ground normally goes to the ground on the ballast just like the + the neutral would go under a screw near the socket if im not mistaken. You got black n white normally along with the green. Green is your neutral and the other 2 are your +/-
 
thanks for the replies! I couldn't find anything on the net about it and was feeling kind of dumb, lol.
 
Grounding the reflector can help alleviate stray electricity in a tank.

Green is not neutral green is earth ground.
Residential color codes....

Bare Copper________: Earth ground, or
Green_____________: Earth Ground, or
Green w/yellow stripe: Earth ground
Whited____________: Neutral/Return, tied to ground in service entrance panel only
Black______________: 120V to ground, phase 1, 240V to phase 2
Red_______________: 120V to ground, phase 2, 240V to phase 1

As others said, you should ground to the reflector. Metal halides aren't as finicky, but some fluorescents will have trouble starting if you don't ground them.
