I'm a fan of the Rebel, we are not disappointed in it. Which is better or worth the extra dough? Don't know...Ford or Chevy kind or argument imo. :)

The Nikon D5300 has 24 Megapixels, while the Canon Rebel T6/Canon 1300D is 17.9 Megapixels. The Nikon also has a higher-resolution screen, but that's minor. The Nikon has got a couple more features, like stereo microphone, instead of Canon's mono, but... The megapixel amount is the biggest difference. So if you think a $100 difference justifies adding 6.1MP's, then get the Nikon, otherwise, get the Canon and save $100.

I'm definitely not a camera expert, so I have no clue if the 6.1MP's would make a massive difference.

Edit: I accidentally posted it twice and I'm not sure how to remove the other one.

Both good options, are you planning on shooting other things besides just your tank?

Nikon tends to have so better (ish) glass availabe. Canon has great skin color for portraits though. This is just being regurgitated from YT though lol. I would check out the comparison on cameradecision.com, they have tons of great tech info on both cameras. If you aren't into all the details then you'll be happy with either I'm sure.

The included 70-300mm with the Nikon is a fun one to shoot wild life with for beginners. Not the sharpest but at least you'll have the chance to see what else you like photographing.

Full disclosure, I'm a Nikon D3400 shooter.
