Hey everyone, with the advent of LED lighting, it seems that more and more stores are displaying their corals under heavy actinic lighting. While I appreciate this light, and plan on supplementing heavily in the blue spectrum for my display, I also am running halides.

It can be tough to tell (in pictures and in person) which corals will still look good with halide lighting in the 20k range, and I want my corals to look great under both spectrums.

For those that use (or used to use) halides, what are some of the "new" corals that still look great even if there are not under 420-460 nm wavelengths?

Post your pictures.

All of them but the new batch of A. Tenuis. You don't get the "trick" colors like you see posted online, but corals still look great without any RB supplementation. They A. Tenuis still look good, just not like they are under a black light.

Some of these are 20k Radium and some are 14k Phoenix - they both look nearly the same to my eyes. These are under Halide only, no LED and not T5s. iPhone pics that were not edited.

WT Tierra Del Fuego:

Garf Bonsai & ASD Rainbow Millepora:

Just a frag, but I love the colors:

Jason Fox Purple Blade Simplex (the sheen is even more pronounced in person):

#4 is a Pink & Green Saramentosa, Ice Fire Echinata and Green Loripes

#5 is Copp's 24k Millepora with ORA Cali Tort bottom right

#6 Purple Dragon Eyes originally from RR, but sold and branded by Tyree

#7 has ORA Miami Orchid on the left, Peng's Princess Disastah in the Center (pink smoothie), Bubblegum Loripes Top Center (green with pink tips), Westside Longorn (purple one) just to the right of it and a Blue Grotto Aussie Smoothie just to the right of the Princess Disastah. It is hard to find true blue smoothies like this.

I am really into smoothies, can you tell?

When everything is right 20k Radiums and Phoenix 14ks will color up any coral very nicely. You just wont have the pop and florescence of LED or certain blue T5s.
