White Balance

What are you guys using to set your White Balance? Are you leaving it at auto? I ask because when I was at my local camera shop the other day, I showed them some of the pics I have taken, the guy said I would not beleive the difference in my photos if I had my white balance set. He sold me this special lens you shoot through to set it.

well first things first you cant set any camera to recognize white in any lighting higher than 10,000 Kelvin.

I should be able to tell you exactly how to do it, just fill me in on what camera you are shooting.

If its a DSLR that has RAW format available it is as easy as pie, if not still pretty easy but a little more work.

Yes, I use a Canon Rebel XT. It is capable of capturing in RAW format.

I have 14 days to determine whether or not I like it. I have seen them for as little as $105 (for the size I purchased).

Oh, I have used TP, papertowel, white walls, white shirts, just about anything white can be used to set a custom WB.

That is a loaded question. In general, I want my coral pics that I post on the web to look the best that they can, but I would also like my everyday pictures to look great too.

If I were you I would get the Canon 50mm (nifty fifty), and a 100mm or 150mm macro, Canon or Sigma. (depending on how close the corals are to be photographed)

Oh the 50mm and the Canon 100mm Macro would only cost you about $700 together.

I already have the Canon 100mm Macro lens. It is nice, but the problem, as I see it, is it is a fixed lens - no zoom in or out.

I will say that is is a very fine piece of equipment. It is very beefy and super fast.

That is why you zoom with your feet..... Or in the case of macros, the rails on your tripod.
