Hey everyone.

I have a blue hippo tang that has some white spots all around its body. Probably about 4-7 spots. It did not have any of these spots last night and they popped up this morning. Any ideas what it could be. I’m assuming ich but not 100% sure. Any advise and treatment plan would be nice.

My hospital tank is unfortunately down at the moment. And even so catching this hippo tang is almost impossible.

I do have a clown fish that periodically gets white bumps as well but they go away on their own.

He seems to be eating and swimming fine.

125 Gal tank.
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
.5 nitrate
Alk 1.025

Other fish: 2 clown, 1 gem, 1 lawnmower, 1 dragonet, 4 fire goby, 4 cardinals, 1 flame hawk, 2 nems.

It could be mucus plugs/cones, but I think I can see some spots on the soft portions of the fins, that typically indicates marine ich.

Options would be:

1) wait until some other fish develop similar spots, confirming ich. If they don't, then it is just mucus.
2) Move all of the fish out and treat with coppersafe for ich (I know, can't easily be done).
3) Move all of the invertebrates out and run the tank in hyposalinity for 35 days.

What happened I'm dealing with something similar with my blue hipo rn
I used marine ich attack because it is nearly impossible to catch all my fish and it’s reef safe. I also made sure to feed regularly with vitamins and supplements.

She is doing fine now and all spots and bumps are gone.

Stay calm and don’t panic.

Good luck.
