Just got a 5” PBT from the latest SriLanka shipment. The fish has yet to enter LFS water.

I just observe on the right cheek there is a raised 1cmx1.5cm jelly like growth (looks like brown jelly disease on torch coral). Doesn’t look like parasite, I’ve done an 30min 150ppm H2O2 dip prior and my cleaner wrasse pays no attention to it. PBT is starting to eat nori, doesn’t seem to bother him a bit.

As I’m putting the whole tank to copper power 2.5ppm in a week’s time, any pretreatment is warranted for this fella?

I wouldn’t wait more than 72 hours to start copper on a PBT….48 hours is better.
Could this be just a bump?
Did you get the fish directly from an overseas shipment?

You can give it a 60-90 ruby rally bath. if youre going with copper, do not ramp it up but get to therapeutic level 2.25-2.5 with 12-18 hours and monitor with a reliable copper kit such as Hanna brand and monitor ammonia levels.
It appears to be bacterial and stemming from the bag water as it appears it never made it out of bag before you received it.
Acclimation here plays an important role and not sure how you acclimated fish and for how long but often fish in shipped bags produce carbon dioxide and ammonia. The carbon dioxide lowers the pH of the water in the bag, That in turn makes the ammonia non-toxic to the fish. When you acclimate them, if not done just right, you drive off the carbon dioxide faster than you are diluting the ammonia. That raises the pH of the water in the bag, and that in turn, makes the residual ammonia very toxic to the fish. Sometimes, the fish will die right in the bag

Thanks for the quick response.

Got the fish from LFS before they got the chance to transfer the fish from the shippers’ bag into sales.

I was holding it in observation over the weekend to get it feeding before copper. Looks like I gotta start pretty soon.

If it’s bacterial due to ammonia burn or others, what medication/antibiotics goes with copper in this case? I’ve got General Cure at the moment.

Thanks again.
