I use a white usb strip for my refugium. I'm considering getting a Grow light(purple-red light). I notice some people use white and some the purple on their refugium, which would give better growth?

That’s a loaded question just like asking what salt is best. Lol I used a 6500k cfl bulb for 6 months and had very little grow with Chaeto and Ulva, I switched over to a Kessil H380 and I had to harvest both bi-weekly or it over grew my fuge. So I’m bias towards the grow light spectrum.

I had no problems growing chateo with a screw-in daylight regular and CFL bulb. You can do well with either, IMO, where iron and steady presence of nitrogen and phosphorous, but not too high, are probably more important than the light.

I have used a regular bulb on a refugium for a long time and I can tell you it will grow Macro. But now LED grow lights on Amazon are very inexpensive so I think I will try one and see if it works better

I am a fan of the led grow flood lights. they are sold as 100w but actually 50 watt drivers. but cheap and I have to harvest every week for chaeto.
