I recently got a 3.5” maxima and last night I noticed a white stringy spider man looking web stuff can ming from its base? It almost loks like the stuff we sometimes see in the clams feet...the stuff came loose and floated around. I looked like a main string with many small strings attached to it....

Is my clam trying to set base or something? Its been in my tank for only a few days and is sitting on crushed coral substrate.

Sounds like it detached its byssal threads. Nothing to worry about if the clam did it on it's own. It can happen if they are unhappy in the current location or when they get big enough and don't need the byssal threads to stabilize themselves.
