So....heres the story. I got a nice size SPS frag from a LFS. I did notice there was some white happening on some of the tips which I thought might have been from to much light. Now in my tank there is a ton more white going on. I dont have a picture right now but I am assuming maybe they had a alk swing in their tank which caused the white tips. Since being in my tank my alk is staying very steady at 7.8-8.1 at least I assume that is pretty steady.

My question would be if their tank was say at 11 DKH and mine at 8 could that cause further whiting of the tips? I seem to be getting very little PE and have now dropped the coral very low in my tank and letting it get medium flow hoping to let it recover a bit. It has browned out a lot now except for the fried tips. Will try to get a picture when I get home.

Looking for the best course of action to take if I have not taken it already.

Thanks for the advice,

Aaron.

Is it white like dead flesh or clean/white like new growth? A pic will really help. A dead tip will grow algae on it quickly.

Looks clean but dont think its new growth but I could be mistaken just looks like it lost color. No algae growing on it at all. Will get a pic as soon as I can.

Doesn't look like its losing any flesh so not thinking RTN or STN

Where the polyp's come out (Coralites??) are all white tipped as well.

If it already had an unhealthy part then moving it to a new tank could have made it worse. I'd find a spot you can leave it for now and not move it around until we can figure out exactly what coral it is and what could be wrong with it.

Here's a picture. Looking worse and worse. Guess it was a gamble to get something already stressed.

Gah sorry sideways. iPhone picture.

Also wanted to add that only the area's that were in the light seem to have white tips. So maybe it just got bleached out but I am no expert. One other note is that the piece came from a MH tank and don't think I took the right steps to acclimate it to my LED's

Bleh....alright. I thought when a acro was going through STN it was actually losing the flesh off the coral.

Thanks
