Bubbles are coming up from the sand, especially when I use the mangetic glass scraper on the glass right next to the top of the sand. but they do just float to the surface ocassionally. does anyone know why this is? is it a problem? my sand if fiji pink sand in a 40 breeder.

Possibly a sign of a cyano bloom (cyano usually traps air). Is the sand discolored in any area of the system?

i do have a little cyano, but i think it is getting better. should i help get the air out by raking the sand lightly? of course, i am working on the cyano issue.

I'm still battling it (about 4 months now). I use to think turning over would break it up into the flow and bring it to the skimmer, but it just came back and back again. I have also tried 3 days of no light and MB7 with no assistance. Also tried to vaccum it out, nope, had it again. Leaving it alone and adding phosguard brought it to a light tan on white sand. Mine wasn't so bad that it was creeping all over the rocks and glass, but bad enough that I couldn't stand it. Time is what is working for me now. Even flow just moved it throughout the tank. IMO, I would keep an eye on it and leave it where it is now (providing it's not too bad). I beleave that if your water test read that your system is within range of good, the cyano will choke out itself as in my experience.
