Hey guys
So I got these Xenia 3 weeks ago first week did great but slowly they started to shrink and now they look like this.
my mushroom looks weird as well can it be the algae that I’m battling I’m not sure if it cyano or dinos , my hammer looks okay and my indestructible Kenya tree looks amazing so I don’t know what’s going on and info can help

Hey @shadow_k my Xenia did a similar thing when I had cyano (which IMO is what you have) and stayed that way until a few weeks after the cyano was completely gone. I have no idea why and thought it would die for sure but one day just came back like nothing ever happened. Id say focus on beating the cyano for now.

Thanks for the response! If you don’t mind me asking how did you effectively get rid of cyano ? I feel like it’s a never ending battle

The Three Most Common Questions In Reefing:

1. Why did my Zoas melt?
2. Why did my Cleaner Shrimp die?
3. Why can't I grow Xenia?

...all great questions.

Good luck to you.

Don’t I know it I haven’t lost any live stock yet so that’s good the cyano is eating my phosphates because I can’t detect it on my test and my nitrates are 10ppm

Love that Octonauts submarine BTW.
My wife got it for me because I told her I was setting up a new tank.. but what I didn’t tell her was that it was gonna be a saltwater one she thought I was gonna get another fresh water tank lol

I feel like I'm gonna get dunked on for telling you this but personally I've never had success dealing with a cyano outbreak other than using Chemi-clean. Its never caused me any issues and really does work... and FAST. I typically do it for 36 hours though the box recommends 24. But dont just take my word for it, do some research on Chemi-clean first. Also make sure your parameters arent wack or it may just come right back

Calcium too high, 420
Salinity too high, 1.024
Temperature about78F
Yeah I hear ya I got a free bucket of IO reef crystals when I run out I’m gonna get a different salt my temp is 78° my salinity isn’t a problem since it’s a stable .026 all my main parameters are stable even calcium
Nitrates/phosphates are unbalanced

this is what my coral looked like before the cyano outbreak
