Most likely I would say it is. Mine has grown out really well and has 5 or 6 colors, I will post a pic later today.

Don't forget to post up that pick D, I'd love to see how it gets when larger. Most I ever get is 2 colors because when it gets that big I have to cut :( Can't wait till I upgrade to a bigger tank.

When I sold the widow I met a group of reefers at a LFS in the Bay and I brought quite a few nice pieces with me; but the only other one on that list is the BGM. Did the seller show you my pic of your widowmaker when he was trying to make the sale?
did you get your piece from Andrew also?

what's the size of yours? it should look like dnov99's if it doesn't then you might question lineage, seems like everyone who got their piece from Andrew has same coloration,etc..etc.. from frag to colony.

The widowmaker that I had and sold came from Fab who got it from the original source I think.

Yep, I got it from the original seller and it's actually a nice bright red. It just depends on where you place it in your tank. When I got my piece it was very bright but lost color. I think I give it too much light.

Thats what I thought about mine at first but it just faded more as I lowered it in the tank. I've since fragged it and put the two pieces in very different areas of the tank to see which does better.

I haven't been on the boards lately and found this thread. As Craig (soccerbag) stated I picked this up at a LFS in Richmond VA and fragged maybe 10 pieces of it. When I got it, the majority of the piece was screaming red with some purple streaks in it and the center of it was the picture you see attached. I cut the piece in two since it was a really awkward shape and still have the two pieces and haven't fragged it or sold any pieces since last year. So there are a limited amount of these floating around.

I moved to Florida ten months ago to start a new job. I left my tank in my wife's hands and unfortunately for my friend Craig who had to make several emergency trips to my house to trouble shoot equipment, my tank saw some major swings, even though most processes were automated with dosing. Then three months later I finally moved my tank down to FL and the trip was not good. I lost about 20 chalices and most of my SPS and fish. Hey I still have two chromis left! Of course every zoa that I could care less about made it fine.

The widowmaker made it through the move but colored down considerably due to the water temp dropping to 65 degrees or so and the majority of my tank water fowled with coral death and fish death. So while driving the Uhaul trailer I stopped in the LFS in Jacksonville and got 60 gallons of water. So nothing like doing a 100% water change and then trying to acclimate corals from a 12 hour drive. Great times.

Today, My main piece is still four colors with the green coming back slowly. The main blue areas are a little faded but will come back fine. The main red piece is still screaming red and has morphed two additional colors in the past couple months and is healthy. Dnov99 has the best frag grow out I have seen.

I keep mine under 250 W Radiums with t-5 supplement and pretty decent flow. These are just my experiences with this coral and is my favorite chalice. Of course it is only one of three chalices I have left that made it.

This is the original picture of the mother right after I cut it.

Thanks Craig, my tank would have crashed without your help while I was gone. Much appreciated, you could have let the zoas die though :)
