So I went in to buy an acan and my lfs sold me what they told me was an acan but after doing a ton of research, it turns out it’s actually a favite. It’s a great looking coral and I have it in a moderate to low flow moderate lighting area but It’s pretty close to the substrate right now. I was wondering if it will grow into the substrate or if it will just stay on the rock. I’ve seen a lot of people keep these on their sand bed and I’m worried about it spreading in the wrong directionbecaise I’ve read that these guys can be pretty aggressive.

It’s nowhere near glass at the moment so I should be okay on that front. I have an island a few inches away from where it is currently. It seems to be doing well in its current location. I’m just worried that it’ll grow across the sand and eventually reach that island.

Not sure if they will grow across the sand. This is mine on the bottom glass showing growth.
They do grow slow as this is 9 months growth.
Long sweepers at night.

Favia/favites are not the fastest growers unless you heavily feed it. I would think it would stay on the rock you have it on more so than grow across the sand. I have never had one grow on glass.
