And this is why I'm glad I'm logging this. I think I'm off a day but not dosage. This was a super busy weekend and week between multiple july 4th parties, family in town, work, july 4th parties, work, family in town etc.
I will look back and on this thread and coordinate with how much aquazole I have left and what I dosed last night. But I'm off possibly 1 day from my last update above and possibly dosed a 4th day. So it works out in the end just fine.
At the last minute last night I decided not to blow anything off during these 4 days of dosing. I will keep swapping filter socks. I was thinking, what if its the constant blowing off of the rocks each night thats pushing the dinos to encyst. Either way I'll resume using the baster after these 4 days of treatments.
There was very minor visual evidence tonight even with out blowing everything off last night. See if you can even see it. Its there.
Tested nitrate and phosphates tonight. Though I should have waited to do phosphates later. I had just feed a bunch of LRS fish frenzy about 10 minutes before doing this so its probably messed with the PO4 readings though what I tested tonight I would consider perfect and would love for my system to stay there. But I have a strong feeling my PO4 is lower then what tonights test shows.
Run down Update (modified from what I thought I did to what I actually did...way to many late nights)
Prep
Dumped in enough food to cause a massive outbreak of cyano and dinos that would normally last at least 1-2 months
Before Dosing
Turned off Automatic Water Changes
Took out GAC (would have taken out any GFO too if I had any)
No ozone (same would apply to UV or dosing H2O2)
Cut carbon dosing in half
Tuned down the skimmer but kept it aerating the water
Kept ATS online
Kept ATO online
Kept feeding as normal (a lot)
Day 1 (Night of June 28th)
5 grams Metroplex dosed
(This works out to around 250mg per 10 gallons per day.)
Day 2 (Night of June 29th)
5 grams Metroplex dosed
Day 3 (June 30th)
5 grams (20 pills) Aquazole dosed
sample under microscope shows active peridinium dinos
Day 4 (July 1st)
Added filter sock.(100 micron felt. 4" ring by 14" length)
Blew of all surfaces
Changed sock
Brought skimmer back online
5 grams Aquazole dosed
Day 5 (July 2nd)
Changing filter sock 3 times per day
Blowing off all surfaces in the evening
Minor grow back of visual dinos
extremely minor to no growth back of cyano
5 grams Aquazole dosed
Day 6 (July 3rd)
5 grams Aquazole dosed. (bottle is empty...)
Very minor growth again.
Changing out 100 micron felt sock 3x per day still.
Blowing off all surfaces at night
Day 6 (night of July 4th)
Very minor growth again.
Changing out 100 micron felt sock 3x per day still.
Blowing off all surfaces at night
Samples show no recognizable or moving peridinium dinos. A lot more much smaller flagelet phytoplankton of some kind.
No dosing done
Day 7 (July 5th)
5 grams Metroplex dosed
No blowing off of surfaces done
Skimmer still online
Filter sock changed out twice
Very minor amounts of visual dino growth on rocks
Day 8 (July 6th)
5 grams Metroplex dosed (found I had no aquazole left and relized I was a zombie this past week and going through things on auto pilot where I could...)
No blowing off of surfaces done
Skimmer still online
Filter sock changed out twice
Extremly minor amounts of visual dino growth on rocks
No real change to nitrates or phosphates through out. Possible slight increase in PO4 tonight.
Ok that is now straightened out. My timing was thrown off twice in all this. First was between day 3 and 4 I think. Then tonight I found I didn't have any aquazole for tomorrow night to dose and realized I've been coasting on autopilot when I hit my basement the past week doing apot checks, swapping and cleaning socks, and just plopping in pills...
So, again in the end I'm around where I thought I was and actually in better shape. I thought I was 48 hours between where I left off from dosing but I am only 24 hours between the first round and second round here.
Which really shouldn't have any gap. As I've been double dosing 250mg/10 gallons and it doesnt just go away from the water column over night. 48 hours has been suggested but could be wrong.
So If I'm going for 7 days I'm kind of done. I'll do two more days to hit 10 days into it with 1 day gap. Glad to have this straightened out now. Again, another late night...
