I don't have an ATO unit yet, but will the flow/current generated from a power filter trigger an ATO to turn on? How do you avoid this?

The ATO sensor is typically in the sump set at the low water level.
If putting in a tank, again the sensor would be put at the low water level. Preferably not in an area where it would be susceptible to fluctuation from a powerhead

Anything that lowers the water level of the area the ATO sensor is installed will trigger the ato until the water level is back to normals based off of the installed sensor location.

If your talking about having one on tank running hob filtration i would say its possible if you have enough surface movement. I run an aquaclear 110 hob on a 40g breeder placed center on the back. I also have a Nero on one end and a jebao gyre on the other. I'm able to run an ATO using an optical sensor with no problem but I'm not creating a wave in the tank or it would be a problem I think. I've triggered it working in the tank.
