Hi,
I bought a few new corals today, one of which was a green toadstool frag. It was beautiful at the store, though when I was getting it acclimated it slipped out of the rubber band and off of the plug, so I stuck it onto a rock. When I went to do my weekly water change, I forgot about the new frag, and accidentally drained the water below the coral (it’s at the highest point in the tank). It was left like that for about an hour. By the time I helped the poor guy, it was grey, shrunken, and very hard and dry. I’ve had leathers get angry at me in the past, but this feels different. Will it survive?

Also, if it does bounce back, how long would it take to establish a footing? I really don’t trust my crabs and feel like it’s being strangled by this band (though it looked fine and happy at the store). I’d hate to lose it and feel so guilty. I hope it comes back but it doesn’t look too hot. Then again, it is a leather coral.

It should be fine. Leathers are touch as nails. Rubber band pressure looks good too. I don't think 30 minutes above water will have caused any real harm either. They usually slime up to protect themselves if necessary.

Give it some time to acclimate and it'll perk back up. Hopefully in a few days but could take as long as 2-3 weeks.

Ahhh, the droopy leathers . Yes- they get in their moods..... BUT can also be:

- lack of water flow
- shedding-
- too much light
- high nitrates

Take a turkey baster and give the top head gentle blasts which generally perks them up. They also like a little iodine and iron in their water

I tried moving it to better flow but I think the rubber band was too tight because the stem snapped in half. Will it be okay?

I also did this with the stem, because why not?

Won’t take too long at all. I massacred one of my toadstools less than a week ago and left a tiny piece of foot and it is already sprouting new polyps and growth.

This is the third time I’ve had to do this. This time I fastened the coral itself because the stem is completely gone. Is there some kind of magic touch to mounting these things that I’m missing? I don’t think it can take any more of this rubber band nonsense!

A container with rubble. Set it in and let it foot on its own. That’s what I do. The fresh break should grab quicker. They really want something firm to grab on too.

I’ve also placed in sand let them grab the sand than super glued to rock or plug.

I use something like this. 2 or 4 oz. https://www.google.com/shopping/pro...s=cid:13812727190583231796,cs:1,sgro:iv,mvi:0

I’ve use bigger but yours looks fairly small
*****EDIT******
mine are 4oz that I’ve used not the 2oz.

I don't think that would work for the leather coral. It would probably just excrete slime over it. That's at least what my Xenia did when I tried super glue.
rrect they will slime off supper glue

Luck with the glue. A container with rubble works well. After the piece attaches to the rubble you can glue the rubble and leather to the rock work.

I’ve never failed with super glue. Maybe just luck?
Luck every peice i tried it they are off the next day. If they have attacjed sand to the base super glue will work. If your going to do that just use rubble.
