I am pretty sure an aquabus cable is just an HDMI cable. Will this one work? I need one that is long enough to go to a different room for a second tank. Thanks

+1 the apex aquabus uses standard usb cables. But they don't use standard usb protocols. They state everywhere not to plug in usb devices.AquaBus uses USB cables, but standard USB cables longer than about 16 feet typically have a repeater device which is incompatible with the Apex because USB devices work on 5v but AquaBus uses 12v.
This company makes long USB cables specifically without repeaters to be Apex compatible:https://www.usbfirewire.com/parts/rr-apex-xx.html
