I heard from a few parties that it wasn't like old reborn. They showed pics of lots of small random bits, not just decent sized actual coral chunks. Can anyone confirm? Is it like the old days or not quiiiite the same?

Thanks!

This is a pic I was sent, comment was, lots of little quartz pieces (used to just be the bigger coral bits):

Wow! If that’s the new Reborn media Middle keys is gonna make a fortune. If Middle keys will step up to better packaging and sort a few more shells out of their product theirs is much better than what’s pictured above. I’ve got one bag of reborn coming so I’ll see if it’s indicative of what the reborn product is now. If that’s the new reborn they can keep it.

I was just about to ask the same thing. Got.mine today and am underwhelmed. This stuff is barely larger than aragonite gravel and there seems to be a lot of other.thibhs mixed in.

Compared to the last bit of my old bag that I used as substrate for my shrooms and it's def smaller.

I found bulk qty of stuff that looks a lot more like what I remember reborn/coarse ARM looking like but you have to order 100lb on Ali and.wait for it to ship from the Philippines.... Seems risky.

Just received my bag of Reborn. Here are the pics. Not very impressive. I’ll keep it for backup to my lot of Middle Keys media I have running now. Two little fishies may be in trouble if this is the best they can find to replace the original reborn. If this is reborn “little reborn“ must be coral dust. Looks like coral bits and pieces with rocks thrown in.

I got two similar bags. This was also my first two bags of it. Now that I'm seeing these comments I'm definitely concerned because when it came in it looked nothing like stock photos nor what I've seen in reefing videos... I may ask for my money back.

Here is old reborn versus new reborn. Different source apparently. Pieces are definitely smaller, though seems to be the same essential stuff so I fail so see why it would be a source of consternation. Smaller media actually allows you to get more in a given space.

I guess you're right, as long as it doesn't clog like smaller media.

I think maybe we all bought too much into the marketing TLF out out for the larger chunks.

FWIW, if the larger size doesn't really make a difference, then there's no reason to pay a premium for reborn.

Is there a less costly alternative (particularly if you are buying the big box of reborn)? I suppose caribsea crushed coral might be, but then you're dealing with a ton of shell fragments that cannot realistically be removed.

The Middle Keys product looks much more like the "old" Reborn. I was scrambling for months to patch together enough skeleton but now I am all set for well into 2021.
