Worried about glass thickness

You could always email them and ask. I’m not sure anyone here can answer with bay kind of certainty.

I think you’re right. I’m having a 3rd party do the drilling & install. I’ll just reach out to them & make sure this will all work. We swapped out the SW for the FW last minute due to stock issues, so I’m just worried they didn’t do their due diligence - though I am sure the likely did.

If they’re concerned about the glass thickness too, (and assuming they do glass cutting as well as drilling), it is possible to add glass corner reinforcements! — reference my build thread if you’re curious about that whole rabbit hole!
 
That eurobrace is going to help a lot. Perhaps they needed it with the thinner glass.

Almost certainly! Given how the reef version is thicker glass vertical panes to avoid the eurobrace!
 
Saltwater is heavier than fresh and more dense. Maybe the extra thickness is to compensate for that
Mike Reefs is correct. On average tanks marketed for saltwater will be a few mm thicker due to the density of saltwater rock load along with the pressures of flow pumps. Nonetheless people have been using freshwater tanks for saltwater since forever and with great success. You’re just gonna have to do what you feel most comfortable with and be sure to be confident & happy with your purchase Op
 
strenth of glass isnt your only concern, seam silicone doesnt have much area to adhere to with 10 o12 mm
hence red sea seam failures. that sounds like a reptile tank, i wouldnt want it in my house. i have a 48x24x24 120 gal, 5/8 glass with armor seams and top and bottom euro bracing. im not taking any chances with a 120 gal of water in my house.
 
I’m not sure I’m regards to density and weight, but it appears from the pictures that the 105 and above not only have the two side braces, but 1 or more center braces as well depending on the model. That’s why they can get away with the thinner glass. I would recommend reaching out the them directly and asking about the bracing as well as using it for Saltwater and see what they say. At the end of the day you have to do what you feel comfortable with based off what they tell you.

Agreed. I just reached out to the folks who are doing the install for me. I think WB recommended this so I didn’t have to wait on back order for the reef model. I’ll see what they say and possibly contact WB directly myself this week. Given we have to drill it, the warranty will be voided. All the more reason to triple check.
 
I think you're fine with 10 mm sides and 12 mm bottom even without eurobracing or framing. There are a lot of aquarium glass thickness calculators online and all of the ones I look at put within a margin I'd be comfortable. It's close to 3.8 and if reputable company known for selling aquarium I'm sure they've done their math. Failures are overreported and scary sounding. But rare.

But it is your tank and your house so if you feel additional bracing is needed go for it. In addition to top bracing you can also add in bottom bracing.

The bottoms are thicker due to increased load, strength needed for frameless support and more area for silicone to adhere.
