Wrasse question

I've been reading and reading, and researching. I want to add a new wrasse into my tank and a LFS happens to have a few very nice ones. The have a melanarus and a Christmas wrasse (that I'm not quite sure is in fact a Christmas wrasse) unless it's transitioning colors. Any feedback on which one would be a better fit?

My tank currently has a pintail and a sunset in it as is 150g with a thick sand bed. Neither of my current utilize the sand...

I love sand burying fish. Theyre fun and extremely personable.

In the 200 im starting i want to have around 5-7 of them. Leopards are my favorite out of the ones that will burry.

If i were you id give it a shot. 150 is more than enough space for a few of them

Be careful with the “Christmas wrasse”. Due to there being 5-6 species that undergo that common name, it’s never a guarantee to which one you may get unless you have a photo and can ID it or get it IDd.

Sand sleeping wrasses in that tank should work however if you have a full stock list that will be best as some sand sleepers are quite sensitive and don’t always work too well after certain species are introduced.

Well I decided to write my own story lol, I picked up a malanarus and an orangeback.. and needless to say it's been work today. But I cut lights out early so everyone can chill and we will reassess in the morning. I was able to make sure everyone ate something... better than nothing.

Crazy thing, my pintail started all the bs which I didn't think was gonna be the case and then my sunset hopped in.

By pintail do you mean Cirhilabrus isosceles. If so, I would avoid any aggressive or semi aggressive wrasses which the melanarus is. The pintail will be forced to a corner or in the rocks until it withers away.

How small is the sunset at the moment and is it a Thalassoma lutescens?
Size is key, an adult true sunset (T. lutescens) will most likely end up bashing peaceful, timid wrasses.

What works now, doesn’t always work long term. I had several wrasses getting along, however one suddenly flipped (a Cleaner Wrasse) and went haywire if I added any pencils (Pseudojuloides sp.) into the tank.

Oh true. Yeah they will establish a pecking order. Just watch for over aggression. Ive seen some wild stuff when they actually get territorial and mad. You could hear it outside the tank for a couple of mine when they would get crazy. Thats when i sold one of them.

I mean I think we all know that what looks like peace outside the tanks is like projects for these guys lol. Everyone can always wake up on the wrong side of the bed, but I figured as long as I pay mind to them I can get them to understand existence even if their is tension.. I'll see, and if not then well... guess ones gotta go... here's a video of them today. (Everyone is eating like champs as well)
