The light should go from a flashing color to a solid green

Here is video updating the WXM for the G4Pro on a new Apex so it will look different the Apex classic however the WXM module will act the same (time in the video 2:30 to 3:00)

Yes it will just above the above picture it will tell you the status it will say update will start in ten seconds,
Then will say updating
It won’t say completed but you can look at the revision number

When I click wxm rf firmware it does nothing at all

Create a support ticket and let them know that the WXM wireless chip is no longer working and you would like to send it in to see what the will cost would be to get the wireless chip replaced with a limited warranty, or purchase a new WXM and get a 1yr warranty.

You might also try changing the one inside the Ecotech module as well those are very cheap
I forgot what I paid for mine from the Ecotech Marine website
