I have not seen mine in the sand, but I would bet that is where he beds down. Mine is very active in the tank picking on the rocks grabbing little snacks and a big eater. I added a 6 line the other day, and he hid for two days and was really spooky on the 3rd day but he is eating and swimming the tank now.
