I’m not sure what you’re referring to but I think it may be the darker color. That is normal for yellow tangs when it is dark. Their yellow will return in the day.
The white and darker color that’s in the middle of the fish.

That’s the night time colors. A majority of marine fish change colors during night time. All my tangs do this. Also the little guy will yellow up in no time. Give him good food with the least amount of fillers you can find. Along side nori with selcon drops on it.

I give mine spectrum pellets small for little guys like this, and wafers with a drop of selcon. Then nori I put it on a clip get some selcon drops on the nori, let it sit and dry for 10min +-, then put it in the tank.

You can kind of spot two yellows and a few others a some are out of frames 8 tangs and an emperor. Love them all!

The black spot freaked me out too when I got my biota tang, looked exactly like yours. He would display it during the day sometimes too in the first week or so. Two months later he's colored up nicely and is growing before my eyes :)

Simple stress marks and I have 6 yellows who all display this at lights on each morning
