I just purchased a yellow tang from BOITA last month. They do arrive a little small and pale but it’s absolutely worth it. Super healthy fish with no issues. About 2 weeks in the tank and with good food we are starting to get good coloring. Both my tangs hate their picture taken so this the best I could get hiding behind a wall lol

I think biota is about your only choice but I’m not as much of a fan. I ordered my blue tang there about a year ago. Did not receive the day selected because they accidentally sent to wrong customer, bummer that I took off work.

Then I received this guy - I still like the fish but geez they are charging a premium and sent me one with HLLE. When I contacted them about it they said it was just a cosmetic issue that occurred during shipping, it wasn’t that bad, and it would heal up quickly in good water quality. Year later, it’s healed, but there’s scarring and I get asked about it by reefers and non reefers.

Pic is from when I first put him in QT.

I was "lucky" enough to get a wild one in 2021 at my LFS. Someone had just traded in bc it outgrew their little 40gal tank.

Me and one another guy was staring for 5 min and here i am brainstorming and planning on to make the first move... finally decided to ask the owner for the price and i quickly said "I will take it !" before the other guy can make up his mind lol.

This yellow tang is a beast.. still vibrant and going strong.

A LFS near me had 8 for $125 on sale. Had I had an Emory tank to QT, I would have bought all of them. QT’ed them in full and sold them at QT’ed fish! Or maybe kept the whole school! 🤣

Hobbyist are used to wild caught fish as it relates to both size and coloration. Captive bred, raised, typically arrive young and small which come with different coloration and behavior in most cases. One of the benefits in my opinion.

+1 for Biota. I got my yellow tang from them in late 2023, was the size of a quarter on arrival and is now vibrant, fat and healthy.
