I recently purchased a baby yellow watchman goby to go with my 20 gallon reef (With 100% peaceful fish). He’s been hiding a lot. Is this normal for a yellow watchman goby? When will he come out?

Will take some time for him to acclimate to his new surroundings. Wouldn’t recommend moving/stirring things up looking for him. Just unnecessary stress. He‘ll come out when he’s ready. I’ve got a grey watchman and he only shows his head until feeding time.

Yeah give it some time especially when it’s so small. Any plans to find a shrimp for it?
Not any time soon... Nobody in my area sells pistol shrimp. Good news: He's come out a few times in the day. He just gets nervous when I come in. He is very cute. I'm feeding him Mysis shrimp.

Mine got into the QT tank and immediately went into hiding.
Hid so well, in a bare tank with a couple pipe fittings in it, that I thought I lost him.
When it was time to go to the DT, I found him in the transfer bucket.
Once in the DT, he immediately went under a rock.
I haven't seen him since.
It's been 9 months.

Hope springs eternal.

I named him Houdini.

I've never found remains, never saw a ammonia spike, so it's barely possible.

I am about to do some major rockwork, so maybe I'll find his little skeleton today.

What if he is alive?

What if he is alive?
Then I'll try to get a pic, and let him be.

If he wants to be a hermit and never leave a hole under the rock, I'll let him. He'll just have to build a new hole.

I've decided my largest "mountain" is too big, too close to the glass, and am gonna break it back into it's constituent rocks. then rebuild it with more clearance for the glass, and with some bigger more wide open holes. I figure it's better to do it now, before it's completely covered in corals and such.

so i’m going to piggyback off this thread and tell you that my 1 inch watchman showed up under my moonlights darting around my tank tonight. It has been 2 months since i’ve seen him. I am in disbelief that this fish is still alive.

My Goby hardly ever comes out from underneath his burrow with his pistol shrimp roommate.. when he does come out it’s about once every two weeks and then sometimes he will swim up the back wall, almost as if he’s getting exercise from being hidden for so long.
