Sure, would have an area of sand for him if not the entire tank.

As others have mentioned, it would work. They do love to dig around so just watch where he goes and keep an eye on corals if you got them on the sanded near it. Not much of an issue but always best to keep in mind. They are beautiful fish.

Yeah should be fine. They get to maybe 4” so I wouldn’t have too many other fish in the tank. Also if you pair with shrimp, keep an eye on your rock structure because they tend to burrow under it and make it wobble.

Really good advice right here. OP....you can always place your rocks on the bottom where they touch the glass instead of having the rocks sitting on the sand. This would prevent problems when fish dig.

When setting up any new tank, it's always best to place the rocks first, and then the sand. Especially if you plan on keeping any sand-dwelling fish or inverts.

Yup. Just pointing that out to new reefers in case anyone sees. I still see some folks placing the rocks on top of sand at times. Talked to a fellow last week who got a small engineer goby and he needs to redo his rocks. Cool fish but boy do they dig.
