Hey guys! My zebra eel Nebula is finally eating on a normal eel schedule. But Ive discovered she turns her nose up at all food but table shrimp. Anyone have any good suggestions to try with her? Shes a good weight and length, I just dont want her to only eat table shrimps cause she needs something else in her diet

What else have you tried?

My eels don’t like clam but it’s in its natural diet so I’d try that.
Ill have to try with her! Ivar likes clams but none of the others touched them

My zebra won't eat anything besides whole head and shelled shrimp, clams, crab meat, you can get a crab and open it up and pull the meat from within, though it's common for zebra's to open the crab shells by itself, but it will be quite messy in the tank, it's a bit of a job to feed him crabs but my eel loves it so it's something I do every week or two.

I am certain that echidna's get most of their nutrition from crabs because my eel has grown over 14 inches in just 6 months from eating this diet, make sure to feed him the fat located on the top desk of a large enough blue crab, it will fulfill the eels fatty needs

Have you gotten your snake eels to start eating? I was interested in getting one aswell since the dealer from whom I got the G. Ruppelliae from also had a tiger snake eel (Myrichthys maculosus) in stock a few months ago, he got it eating shrimp in a few days, i am hesitant since I'll need to make a new tank for it if I get one because I believe they are too docile to live with a gymnothorax

I would take a trip over to the nearest asian market. Mine has a bunch of stuff live or fresh. Maybe a couple of the little octopi they sell might entice it and help it identify other cephalopods as food

It’s weird because it’s always eaten better than my snowflake but you are right that they probably wouldn’t do well with a large gymno

My zebra moray only really ate table shrimp too. I tried clams and muscles, octopus, crab, and I don’t remember what else but she always refused it. I tried waiting longer to become more hungry but she was pretty stubborn.

My eel is over 2 feet! Also crab is way to expensive where I am. I cant even afford it for me, no way is an eel eating better than me lol

Ah okay. Was she healthy?

It's one of these reasons why I am such a big advocate of deworming eels, they may look clean in the outside but who knows what's in the inside Lol.

How long have you had him for?

I treated mine for about two weeks, he ate a small piece of shrimp after just a few days of dosing the first dose of praziquantel and metronidazole. Never had him go into hungerstrike from that day onwards

I’d say so.

Wow! Shes fat. I say shes healthy. Does she like that PVC??? Mine likes to curl in caves where the other smaller eels go but never fits all the way lol. This was her the other day

I had her for about two years before I moved and shut down the system. She ate pretty early on and then freaked me out and stopped eating for about a month and then resumed like nothing happened.

Mine did that too when I first got her. Then when I had to move her for the restart she stopped eating for about a month. Now she loves shrimp

Nebula was fully stretched out the other day! Shes actually a little over 3 feet by the looks of her! Ivar looks to be fully grown. Loki is growing for sure! Ghost didnt want to come out and show me how big she was with the others lol
