Zoanthids were the coral that really ignited my love for reef tanks and corals in general. From the beginning I fell in love with all the different colors those little button polyps had to offer. They were cheaper way back when but today they still offer the same benefits as they did many years ago. Colorful, colony growers, pretty easy to grow and you can buy them in colonies or single polys. So today let's talk about zoanthids!

1. Currently what is your favorite zoanthid? (pics would be awesome) I'll make a poll afterwards and we can vote!

2. How many different zoa frags or colones do you have in your reef?

I too love Zoa,s. The variety, ease of care and overall appearance they give the tank make them a great addition to any tank.

my current favorite is one of my newer additions.

I have a few hundred strains. When I did maintenance back in college in 2006 every aquarium was the same green trumpet/brain coral, the same bubble coral, the same green or red monti cap. My last day on the job I delivered a 120 gal to a zoa collector that used to work at the same shop. My mind was blown… by kedd’s reds and juicy fruit lol. Since then I’ve had the opportunity to work with most strains (except strats). Zoas are perfectly wonderfully frustrating little guys. After buying my forever house this past spring I decided to split off the zoa collection into its own trough. Large sps and lps colonies where causing daily alk swings (despite my best efforts). Zoas are now in a 8’x30” ‘specimen tank’ on racks with live rock below. It’s my goal to shift the colonies to the rock work as they settle in.

As for my favorite, it’s gotta be the black rainbow that came from ultimate corals.

I only have a single colony of Utter Chaos. Bought a single polyp from a fellow R2R reefer almost a year ago.
It was up to 24 polyps last time I counted a week or so ago.

Truthfully, I got this UC, and then a bunch of talk popped up in the forums about palytoxin poisoning which kind of scared me off of them a bit. It led me to putting my UC frag plug on a little rock all of its own... that way I can easily move it or remove it if necessary.

Zoas are one of my favorite corals with all the different colors/varieties. I have several different ones but can not keep oompa lumpas in my tank for some reason. I’ve tried 3 different times and they never do well while all the others are thriving.

I don't know right off how many varieties I have but I'd guess around 15. My favorites have always been rastas and utter chaos. I see all of the high end zoas and most of the time I still prefer rastas.

Y'all name your most favorite please and thanks for sharing!!!
