I am wondering if an african cichlids can live in a marine life reef tank with other marine fish.

Can they tolerate marine water?

Can they survive in a coral life tank?

Is it too poisonous for the fish?

Is the salinity too much?

Will it be fine/or will it be stressed?

Are corals bad for them or good?

I heard in other sites that african cichlids can acclimate to 28ppt 1.020/ but how high can it still tolerate in max saline I am also wondering a salt tank to 33 to 35ppt for normal salinity for other marine fish.

I’m not sure if can trust the site I am not even a fish expert you guys are an fish expert and you guys should ask properly I am just costumer that logs in here for my serious support questions to make sure I’m right I dont want to get wrong about this!

So Pls give me a serious answer with no tease!

And I would understand it!!

Thank you very much!…

No; that is not correct.

When they say 'high salinity', they mean high TDS water. Like water with high calcium, magnesium, etc. But not NaCl.

Some species of the Subfamily Tilapinae can survive and thrive in 35 psu salt water (reef water) but as I know it - they are the exception - not the rule. Normally - African Cichlids will not thrive or even survive in salt water.

Why would one want to put African cichlids in marine water? If you/your son are interested in cichlids just have a tank for cichlids.
While it maybe possible to keep cichlids in higher salinity, it is highly unlikely to be healthy for it. For most of us, healt of the animals we keep is of utmost important, not our convenient. No one answer because none of us know or even thought about doing such a thing.

YOU DONT HAVE TO BE NASTY ABOUT IT WHEN WHAT YOU ASKED IS NOT WHAT PEOPLE KNOW.
NORMALLY I WOULD SAY TRY IT AND LET US KNOW BUT NOT IN THIS CASE.

This is about 9 mins since he posted the question. Some people are really impatient. Also it was 3AM central time in the US. Most reefer here in this forums are I. The US (I think)

I used to be in American cichlid association even tied for second place in breeders awards program and I wouldn't consider this at all. Africans especially lake tanganyikan cichlids like hard water not salt water... has to be a troll post

No. African cichlids are freshwater, and the salinty would kill them really soon. I don't even think that they could survive in brackish water, which is a mix between saltwater and freshwater. If you want a freshwater fish that can survive saltwater and with corals, try mollies that are bred for saltwater.

I agree with others who have answered here. This is not something that should be attempted. It will kill the fish.
