thank you very much for your kind words! I live to inspire. I've put so much effort, time,
and money into this set up, and it has been completely worth it! the tank is in the living room, and the TV barely gets used anymore. anyone who comes into the house is mesmerized by it, even if they aren't into fish/reef tanks.

further, an awesome fellow reefer has helped me stock my sump back up after the slight disaster of it being drained. I was so heartbroken about my gorgonias. ): he told me to stop by today (always a pleasure, he has nautilus and let's me hand feed them) and gave me a bucket with three different types of macro crawling with HUNDREDS of pods, and FIVE gorgonias! this is what reefing is about people! not only propagating to help reduce the amount that we take from the ocean, but making connections, helping others, and teaching fellow hobbyists. this boosted my morale about this tank 100%. I plan to pay it forward to anyone who needs it.

also, you'll notice the damsels in the sump. there's 8 swimming around there, food for my rhinopias that I'm currently building a tank for.

my order of macro from live-plants.com just arrived! very very happy, definitely the place to buy a good variety of macro. my sump is so full I had to put some in my frag tank! most of this is for my Rhinopias tank, but I'll keep some in this sump.

Your tank is incredible. Recently I've found gorgonians interesting, but read it's difficult to keep them. Have you had difficulties acclimating or keeping them?

Hey I have a nuvo 16 and I'm curious how you plumbed the tank to add a sump. I thought about it, but got worried about the flow and drain rates being off or something going wrong. Could you send me some pics? Thanks!

thank you! they are amazing. they're my favorite. I just posted a thread about my fluval edge NPS build, you should check it out, all my gorgs are in that tank.

anyways! I've found they're very acclimating to temperature and flow, with light you have to be a little more careful. the biggest gorg killer is algae growing on them and not letting them extend their polyps to feed. an algae free tank or a high flow spot is a must! further, most very pretty gorgs are non-photosynthetic unfortunately. some are pickier than others, but I suggest spot feeding 2-3x a week.

THEN you have to worry about food particle size. for instance, the corkscrews ate whole pieces of mysis. that's really big haha. most gorgs enjoy small things like Rotifers and cyclopeeze. the red and yellow finger gorgs can take food size somewhere in the middle of those two as well.

hope this helps! let me know if you have any specific questions.

I will get pictures tomorrow! but the run down is I honestly just winged it and hoped it all would work....and it has, this entire time. I have the nano eshopps overflow box in the same compartment as the return pump to the tank. that obviously overflows down into the sump. down there I have the return pump (pictured somewhere above) that is plumbed back up and down INTO the compartment right in front of the return pump for the actual tank. in the future, I want a little bit bigger of a pump and actually directly hook it up to the return hole for the tank.

the eshopps overflow is really what has made this whole thing work. I never have to adjust the flow because it overflows however fast or slow the pump is pushing water. when the power goes out it automatically stops and when the power comes back on it still has its siphon and automatically starts again. occasionally it's the noisiest thing on my tank, but if the stand door is open it is drowned out by the skimmer.

the only concern I have about this set up is how the water is actually flowing through the entire system. the over flow box is directly above the sump return, so I have the over flow tilted a little the other way to encourage water from the tank to enter the box. like I said, plumbing the sump return directly into the tank would solve this.

let me know if you have any more questions!

the new monster....Halloween crab. he freaks me out haha. not sure if I'm going to keep him. he's got the entire stand to play around in; sump, ATO reservoir, and I'm adding a little box of Eco-Earth for him to dig in.

fiddler crab made an appearance today. he seems to be getting more comfortable around people.

some FTS!

added a hydor pump (100gph turned like all the way down) since the mp10 was way to strong even on its lowest setting. I CANNOT STAND how much the black cord sticks out against the white background. soooo maybe it's time to upgrade to a nuvo fusion 10? LOL. :D

my mini elegance from Cherry Corals (highly recommended). he's in weird flow so he has some pretty short tentacles. doing well though!
