and 12 XP-Gs for the midday

I am going to use 48d drivers so that way I can control the look of the tank and the intensity via the reefkeeper and ALC.

70 degree lenses.

So then a couple weeks later I got in this huge, heavy long box.

Is it the custom piece of bacon I ordered? even tho they said there will never be a pig that big I still had my hopes.

A beautifully made heatsink by heatsinkusa.com!

Hokay,

Now at this point of the project I have to stop and give MAJOR MAJOR props to Jackie Blue for helping me the Whole day to make this project happen. I say that because the 48"x10" = 25lbs of PITA to drill 240+ holes in. So thanks a million times for making this happen.

Hokay, onto the pics.

First thing is starting to try to make sure the numbers make sense

Multiple print outs to double check numbers helps.

First two drill holes! only two hundred and thirty eight to go! But they were a success and cleared the fins and fit perfectly.

So then we did a few more to see if we had it down.

They were good so then we were onto drilling. We did the first half and then sat down to layout the rest of the heatsink.

Lesson learned, if you have a 48" ruler just mark it all out in the beginning and you are good to go and save a ton of time.

cutting oil ftw!

Cleaning it off afterward with some awesome smelling citrus poison degreaser.

Then to use the self tapping screws!
...with cutting oil to make it easier and prevent breakage.

Then placed all the LEDs, my method is doing strings of 12 at a time, verifying polarity of LEDs while progressing so no mistakes are made.

Wiring up and testing and then setting all the drivers to 750MA for the XR-E blues and whites and 1100 for the XPGs.

ME having to be unique then calls for some awesome 200x200x20mm fans :)

How long did all those holes take to drill lol Looks good

Cheddar bacon bagels for breakfast and a late dinner of tilapia. It was a long daty. Next time thermal epoxy.

Wife reads the boards ull never see a final number. Mine will be a few hundred over a normal persons build.

Killer loking build and nice progression pics. Cant wait to see the finished product. Sweet looking fan btw too!

How do you like the High Noon effect of the XP-G?

Bill

wondering if you use a glass top over your tank at all? I did a similar LED retro over my 80g and added a glass top to keep fish in and water off the LED's....nice build!!
