I started in my apt at college when my neighbor gave me a 55 gal for free along with dry rock and sand. promised myself I was going to just do fish with fake corals. Went out and bought about $200 worth of fake corals. Within 2 weeks I had my first zoanthid colony in there. LOL

I've kept fish pretty much my whole life and set up my first saltwater tank back in 98 as a FOWLR. I started reefing in 2003 after an Army buddy (Gar732) got me interested in corals while stationed at West Point. We set up a 20H with a few damsels in the barracks and he taught me a bit about keeping corals. He helped me set up a 55g with a PC fixture along with a Seaclone skimmer and I had officially caught the reefing bug! I eventually moved on to LPS dominated tanks, upgrading to a 125g and then a 180g and now I keep an SPS dominant 180g mixed reef.

I started back in 2000, a year out of high school. I started with an 80 gallon with canister filters and a few years later went to my current 125 and will soon move over to a 225. My brother got me into the hobby and then quit shortly after. I inherited all his rock and added it to mine. Since then I've learned a whole bunch of stuff the hard way.

I've had a saltwater tank about 20 years ago and had it for a long time until it busted a seam about 8 years ago. Although my saltwater tank was fish only, I've always admired reef tanks. After inheriting my 120 I've vowed to make it the way I want and low and behold guess what.. I'm hooked!!!!

We first started in saltwater in the real late 70's. Saw reefing arrive on the scene here in the US, watch and experienced it through the stages to what it is today and we have not looked backed.

I've had fresh water tanks off and on since 1968! I purchased my first salt water tank about 5 years ago. I saw it advertised in the local paper for sale and decided to set it up for my husband. It was a 55 and came with a few beginner corals, two fish, and a gorilla crab! I soon realized I wanted a bigger tank! The 55 has found a new home and now we have two 75's and a 155 bow.

I started way back in 1993. So it has been a little while for me. Almost gave it all up a time or two but I'm glad I have stuck it out. And I must say that technology has changed dramatically since those early days!

I set up my first reef back in 01-02 with all the wrong equipment at advise of my LFS which is no longer there, lol. Even still it did well enough. I only kept softies and a couple lps at first, I still haven't figured it all out but I still have one of my first clowns.

I'll admit it...3+ years ago when my little girl saw Finding Nemo. Being the dad who cant say no....dove head first into saltwater. Went on the advise of the LFS, bought all kinds of crap I didn't need, and found some forums to set me straight. I'm still hooked and plan on doing this for a long time to come. She could care less about Nemo now....and I swear if I hear that **** Justin Bieber cd one more time I'll puke..lol

Over 25 years of keeping fish tanks here. I've had tanks consistently since I was six! Started salt when I was 17. Been all downhill from there ;). So thats 27 years total and 16 years with salt. Always had reefs. No fowlrs. Started with a 55 and now I'm up to 180. Plus multiple other size tanks!

I've kept freshwater most of 39 years, but didn't know I could do salt. I started this year off with something new--saltwater! And it's what I've always wanted. Though I don't know that I'll ever be a full reefer, I love the fish and have some corals in the tank to make my fish happy. They're kind of nice!
