algae

I have had recently dosed what I would call a heavy load of phyto. I dosed 50ml to a 36 gallon tank so probably 2ml/ per gallon of water volume. Also I have an oversized skimmer and only 4 fish with light bio load. I notice that usually the phyto will coat the glass and I scrape off no problem...

Hi all just wondering if someone can identify this brown substance on my substrate I have tried removing it 3/4 times but seems to be coming back is it algae/detritus if so how can I get rid thanks

Hello, I’ve been batting with my tank for well over a year now. First I had the dreaded dinoflagellates specifically Prorocentrum which I beat using Silicon dosing. Since beating that I have now got GHA and it’s out of control can’t see rocks or sand bed anymore it’s just covered. Checked...

Hey R2R! I've been having some issues with this red "hair" algae lately. I've had it in the tank for quite a while, at first it was a slow grower and since the colour is quite pretty I left it be. Lately it has been growing more vigorously and overtaking some smaller LPS frags. I'm aware that...

not sure if this is a hair algae. It seems to have leaves rather than just hairy. Also the second one is clear and just floats and moves with the current so it’s definitely not an animal or critter. But what is it? Any ideas? Thank you!

I just returned from a trip and discovered a lot of long algae in my reef tank. Could you help me identify these and advise on how to get rid of them? They are damaging my corals and clam. Thank you!

Looking for personal experiences of reefers who started out using tap water in their system and then switched later to RODI. Curious what problems you had before that the RODI fixed, issues you had that were not fixed, or even changes you experienced with your parameters afterwards. For me...

Howdy! I have these two Gonioporas and that have some algae growth happening around them. How do I remove it without being to invasive?

Can anyone tell what are these bubbles? You can also see then at the frag rack.

This orange Algae started growing and sprouting and bubbling all over my sand and now it’s almost everywhere. My protein skimmer it picking it up and starting to fill with the nice orange gunk. What is it and how do I clean/treat it. Also on this same subject what is the best tool out there...

This morning I noticed that all the water and a smaller 13.5 I keep at a very notable green tint to it. This essentially happened overnight. I don't keep livestock in the tank, mainly macro algae that I harvest, and a couple of days ago I had pulled the decent size load from one of my reactors...

Anybody know what type algae this? And this ok to be growing on scrubber?

Hi guys, So my tank is 35 days old cycled since last Sunday ammonia 0 finally yay! However this algae seems to be quickly spreading and if it’s diatoms then yea that’s to be expected with new tanks after a cycle however I’ve been reading about dinos and worried it might be that? Sorry I’m super...

So I've been feeling quite frustrated with reefing lately because I feel like I've been doing everything right, I did loads of research and every decision I make with my reef tank is for a specific purpose. Despite this I have just about every issue you can think of in my tank, and no end in...

Hi all, Gonna keep it short, I have a 25 Lagoon with a few frags. Currently fighting with a dino and bubble algae outbreak to no avail, the frags in here are extremely unhappy. I have a tank I set up about 4 months ago (just been cycling, nothing else is in there) and I'd like to move my...

For the last few weeks I’ve been reliving my annoying battle with diatoms and hair algae. Used to have a big issue with it in my 10 gallon even though it was about 7 months old and now it’s started up again in my new 30 though it’s a bit less intense. 30 gal has now been running for 2 months...

My tanks been running since April 1st, it’s a 25g. I’ve got 2 Nero 5s on it running pretty low otherwise my clownfish gets throw around lol. Cuc consist of 2 astraea snails, 1 trochus snail, 3 nassarius snails, and an emerald crab. Currently I have just 1 clownfish fish and a nem. I have kept...

Hey guys, I’ve been battling this algae for a few weeks now! Phosphate used to be at around 1ppm however I’ve brought that down now to a stable 0.25ppm. Nitrates have been sat between 10-20ppm. Which makes no sense as from what I’ve read the general consensus is that Dino’s is from low...

Hello fellow reefers, I am having a big issue with dictyota taking over my rocks. I had a sea hare that I believed was keeping it under control but they seem to have a tendency to get stuck in my fans over and over. Is there anything out there that eats this stuff? I only have a 65 gallon so I’m...

Hey guys, a pink layer is spreading on my biofilters, protein skimmer, main pump, everywhere. It’s on the walls of the sump too. The sump never gets light, unless I am working on it. I only turn on a flashlight for 15 minutes max. So would it be valid to assume it isn’t an algae? Im not sure...

Hello! Just curious what people think this growth is in my tank. Looks to me like some sort of stringy diatoms but I honestly have no idea. Tank has been running for about 11 months now and this stuff has come and gone, but this is the most ive ever seen it. Parameters are also all stable and...

I know there are thousands of threads about this but I can’t seem to get a straight answer reading through them! So quick back story. I started up a 20gal tank and had it going for about 2 months, but I came across a good deal on a new tank so I set up a 65 gal tank with a 20 gal sump and...

Just did a water change yesterday. Got back home from work and notice this red stringy algae not sure need help identifying

Hello everyone, I have a 30 gallon tank and it is a few months old now. I have one shrimp and one clown in there for now. I did not want to over do it starting off being this is my first salt water tank. Water was clear until this past Friday when I did a water change. I have been having...

I need advice on what to do prior to stacking my aquscape on a new Nuvo 100 INT. I upgraded to a Nuvo 100 from a Reefer 250. I have had these tube worm, algae things all over my rock for a long time. I was dosing Vibrant and it seemed to go away but i'm not sure what it is and how to eradicate...
