So I heard GFO bag like this can strip Po4? What if I use this in conjunction with active carbon dosing, the likes of No3Po4x? OK or BAD idea?

Have some BRS 2 canister setups for carbon and gfo. The gfo sat in the canisters after the tank was down. Short of scraping is there a way to chemicaly clean the brown scum that is on the canisters? Thanks
