Hey R2R, this is my first pico tank! I'm very excited to get this guy running along with corals. I plan on keeping some zoas, micro lords, blastos, and any other LPS or softie that catches my eye. This tank has been a few years in the making (and convincing) but finally, it's ready to get...
Hi all,
Thanks for taking the time to view this.
Firstly I have done some searching on this forum at PICO tanks and will continue to do research before committing.
However... As this is my first SW tank I am open to all ideas and thoughts.
I have OCD so the aesthetics need to be minimal, for...
I’d bet that most of us have a shelf, drawer, closet, or garage filled with spare parts. I made the mistake of getting bored and going through mine.... and found I had everything I needed on hand to start up a pico reef on my computer desk. Let this be a cautionary tale to learn some self...
Hello, quick question. Is 82gph enough flow for an entire pico 3g? It would be all from the return pump. I could upgrade down the road if I need to. I plan on just keeping some Zoas and acans. Thank you in advance.
Hi everyone, I recently bought a 3l tank with a HOB filter and light for $19!!! I’m probably going to use it to display one baby fish that just metamorphosised (maybe a week or less at most on display) and/or sexy shrimp babies from my breeding tanks at a time so I want to stock the tank with...
I want to try out some prefab LED pucks on a pico jar. Think like those for under-cabinet lighting. Simple to use, and I could probably figure out how to waterproof the lid/lights. I have a hankering to set up another pico with a 1 gal decorative jar I have lying around with some type of...
I’ve got this 2 gallon pico tank set up and stocked but the top of the rock work looks a little bare. Is there a good coral to keep in a pico tank that likes medium to high par reading and high flow?
Hi just started a nano tank for like 6 months now. The cycle took me like 1 month.
It's around 4gal 15liter tank running without a skimmer.
Tech:
For filtration, I use an HoB with some filter floss and Chemi pure blue.
Lights are Jeabo ak70 running around 40%
Slice nano wavemaker pointed at...
I’m just now creating a build thread for this tank even though it’s probably 2 and a half years old. So let’s go back to the start and work our way through the last couple years with pictures...

Hey all,
I thought I would share a very simple and cheap project I just completed. The total cost for me was $8 as I had most of the parts lying around in my aquarium junk drawer. If you had to buy all the parts, I bet you could do this whole project for about $15-$20 ($30 if you have to buy an...
New member to the site and also new to the reef hobby! My cute gf agreed to start the journey with me and we have pulled together our very first mini ocean.
We named him Mr. Bubbles. He has had quite the rocky start, evolving from a jar of icky water to a super adorable little tank. We started...
Hey community! First post here, looking to document my latest venture into exotic animal care. I had seen a post on another social site weeks ago with an Upside Down Jellyfish and never thought about housing them as I am aware Jellyfish are generally very sensitive and hard to care for. This...
Hey all,
A few months back I decided to jump back to the saltwater world after sitting the bench for about 11-12 years. I was able to repurpose an old Fluval 2.6 that I had used for a freshwater shrimp tank. The tank has cycled and is stock, minus some media in the back and a Kessil A80. I've...
Next week I will be receiving a little 3g cube ( 11.31 in x 11.31 in x 13.375 in) . I plan to set this up as a pico in my home "office" (read: room with my computer and all my weird stuff - I don't work in here, it's my equivalent of a man cave). My office is dark grey (top half) and black...

I have an empty UNS 25C 4 gallon rimless aquarium sitting around, and I’m wondering if it would work as a pico tank.
Would anyone like to share pictures of (or links to) similar setups that you’ve enjoyed keeping?
7/23/20- most recent FTS:
Updated System Info:
Tank: Fluval Spec V (5 gallon)
Light: AI Prime LED
ATO: dosing pump sending water on a timer.
Sump/Skimmer/Dosing/all that other stuff: None yet (we will see how it does with water changes alone. I plan to do a 90% WC weekly).

Hello everyone!
My name is Mark and I’ve been browsing this forum for years and recently I’ve joined your forum because I finally moved from a planted tank to a Pico reef tank.
Well here’s a little story of how that went. I ended up on an impulse buy going to Petco and picking up one of their...
Why are tanks above 30 gallons considered “nano”. I feel like that needs to be changed because calling 30, 35, or 40 gallon tanks nano Just seems very not right. They are not nano at all in my opinion, the cost of setting them up is especially not nano. What do you think?
A week ago I set up a pico reef in a 2g/8L vase. It will hold only zoa's and other softies. Maybe an euphyllia if the flow and light is enough from only a air pump and a cheap China LED.
I don't know if 2g is maybe too small for sexy shrimps or a porcelain crab?
Here's a video from when I set it...
Hello Everybody!
I started this build for a few reasons.....
1. It was super fun!!!!!!
2. Space requirements
3. Higher nitrates for mushrooms and softies
I definitely encourage everyone to try a build like this at least once! With a little patience and organizational skills it was actually a...
Just finally decided to become a member on here after plenty of time snooping around, my tank setup is a 3.7 gal aio from petco, 4 pounds of live rock, 6 pounds of live sand, running imaginarium boxed sea water, and running a bag of chemi pure elite. Stock currently is 1 1” yellow watchman goby...
I recently set up a pico tank at the office! I am not new to the hobby but definitely new to a tiny tank. As it cycles and gets settled in I am wondering what livestock I should toss in and am open to suggestions. The two routes I'm thinking are refugium life...inverts, feather dusters, macro...
