Question: Would it be wise to replace the filter sock in the left part of the sump with a refugium?
I have a newer (1 month old) 90 gal setup with sump as pictured.
Someday (months from now, I know), we'd like to add a Mandarin, which we understand needs lots of Copepods to thrive...
As the title suggests, I'm looking for thoughts on what to put in each of the three filter chambers for my WB 25 Peninsula AIO tank. I have been testing weekly and I am not controlling nitrates well. To keep nitrates low, I have to do multiple water changes a week right now.
Currently, I just...
I'm just now ordering my dream tank and have been all over the place with the setup. It will be an inwall install in my basement so I won't be seeing it as much as my current tank. Automating it to the extent that I feel comfortable having it more out-of-sight is eating my budget. I have a 13.5...
Wondering if I fed an external reservoir via 2 versa dosing pumps on a continuous water transfer if that would be sufficient water turnover for a refugium, I can run a power head in the refugium if needed, however I am just not able to feed the refugium and overflow it back with the design of my...
$120 shipped - tunze skimmer - missing little knob adjuster on the silencer. Was never there when I purchased from another member, unfortunately won’t fit my AIO tank
$80 shipped - chaetomax
This morning I noticed that all the water and a smaller 13.5 I keep at a very notable green tint to it. This essentially happened overnight. I don't keep livestock in the tank, mainly macro algae that I harvest, and a couple of days ago I had pulled the decent size load from one of my reactors...
Yesterday I added a 16oz jar of ecopods variety mix by algaebarn to my 13.5g fluval evo for the first time. I could tell there were some smaller (about 1 millimeter) pods floating around in the jar, but I didn’t see any larger adult ones. I added half the jar to my chaeto in the second AIO...
Hello! Newbie here! No tank. Just questions.
What I know so far is that a sump is like a DIY filter where you can hide equipment and stick a skimmer (which I also don't know the purpose of). And a refugium is a section in a sump usually with live rock, macro, or some sort of biological filter...
Has anyone successfully integrated a macro algae into their system? I was thinking of splitting my overflow to put about 80% to my refugium and 20% to a macro tank. The output from the macro would go to the skimmer chamber in the refugium.
thoughts?
I originally ordered 3D printed media trays with flow direction that I would use for media bags in chamber 1 and a refugium in chamber 2… the story on that is in my other post here:

I still...
In the process of piecing together my first build and I’m wondering about this chamber on the used sump I bought. I assumed it was a refugium but it only has one notch on top, so no real in and out, is this typical? Would I rely on a pump to get water in and out?
I don’t think it’s the fresh...
This is a high-quality acrylic hang-on-back refugium. It includes a pump, light brackets, and built-in probe holders. The unit measures 12” x 5” x 12” and can be adjusted to accommodate various tank glass thicknesses. I've had a lot of success with this unit using a Tunze waterproof light...
I put away the hardware for my 75 gallon reef tank about 20 years ago. So, with a recent move, I rediscovered all of the equipment and I started looking at my current space for the next generation 75 gallon reef for soft and stony corals with a few fish. I have Lots of factors to consider...
Hey Guys, I currently have a 40 gallon Trigger sump I just set up with my 50 gallon frag tank. Anyways this is my first sump so I am kind of going in blind at the moment not knowing how to place everything in terms of media and such so if you guys could just give me any tips or what to change...

For fun I've been messing around with adding an overflow box to a water box 25 gallon peninsula in order to have a sump in the stand. In doing so I found been using a nano refugium I can fit and automatic fleece roller a full size protein skimmer, an algae reactor, as well as media reactors...
...have a refugium or a skimmer?
All other things being equal, in an SPS dominated 60-70 gallon cube system, if you only had room for one, would you prefer a skimmer or a fuge, and why?
So, I call this tank "Chucke2.3".
Chucke1.0 was a 40 gallon toe-dip into the hobby about 12 years ago after many years of fresh water tanks. A couple pieces of live rock, two frags from a coworker, a small in-tank skimmer, a Coral Beauty and a Yellow Tang introduced me to the world of wonder...
So a little background the tank is about half a year old now. I have higher than desirable nutrients Nitrate is at 19.5 and phosphate is at .07-.17 (Hanna issues) I have a refugium going below the tank in my sump i do weekly water changes of about 35 gallons. (the tank is a 90-gallon display and...
Hello!
I’m super excited to show off my 108 gallon fiji cube tank as it grows!
It has been up and running for roughly 6 months now and currently houses 2 clowns (1 black ice and 1 regular ocellaris) from my LFS, tons of live rock (not sure on the exact number of lbs. I ended up actually using...
So usually I never really pay close attention to anything in my refugium, all i do is get rid of some seagrape and Chaeto that have grown to an extent where it blocks off the top view of the refugium. This time after resetting up my dosing pump, i realized this weird creature hanging on the side...
Question regarding plumbing a display refugium. So basically I have a 135g running off of two canister filters and no sump. I am going to plumb a 35g display refugium into the system. My plan was to run a 1inch siphon tube between them and an in-line pump from the 35 into the 135. So in theory...
