Ok I have never used a sump I have watched lots of videos about them and just want to make sure I understand right. I fill up the tank and the sump all the way then I turn the pump on and then once the water has time to spread out I can take a marker or something and place a mark at the water level in the compartment with the pump and then as long as I don't top it off past that mark I won't have to worry about flooding if I lose power. Right?
This is how I do it.
Install everything where and how you want it. Make extra water always.
I fill the tank until water goes through the weir and into the sump.
Fill sump about 8 inches with water.
Turn on pump.
Should be fine but adjust with saltwater until comfortable.
Turn off pump.
Water will drain back into sump as much as your returns are under water.
Best way to avoid that is to drill a hole right at water level in the return pipe.
My sump water level is based on my skimmer. Mines at 8 inches, your's may vary.
I like to be able to shut off pump fast if necessary.
Once you get your level I put a piece of tape there.
We'll all be here to help you when you are ready.
Did what I say make sense?

Thank you. If I can't get the sump he has to work what's a decent one that's not super pricy?

Ok so what are some good flake or pellet foods? I have frozen mysis shrimp and brine shrimp and blood worms for my freshwater fish and flakes for then as well but haven't read yet if salties need different foods than my freshies.
Most of the big vendors in the industry that we get our fish from use this for their pellet food: Reef Nutrition’s TDO Chroma Boost. It comes in a lot of different sizes and I love how their website gives detailed descriptions of what each size pellet feeds - that includes fish, inverts, corals. Most good LFS carry the brand but you can get online easily.

High quality that won’t mess with your parameters as long as you follow directions on quantity.

Got a picture of it?
Sump can be any holding vessel from 10 gallon tank to 5 gallon bucket which I did once!
It should be fine but shoot us a picture if possible and we'll check it out.

Sorry not sump I meant protein skimmer. That's what I get for trying to multi-task lol it has a 50 gallon sump but the protein skimmer isn't working.

I like my IOAOI (but my Urchin ate it). Bubble Magus was another good one for me. I now have an ESHOPPS but haven't used it yet.

Do you have a recipe for this? I would be afraid I was not putting the right stuff in it.
Here is a really good thread and feeding and recipes. If you go through whole thread they discuss reducing recipe for smaller tanks:

I also pay close attention when WWC and TSA let you in on exactly how they care/feed their fish/corals. Two more videos that were helpful to me:
More green circles.

AND AGAIN with replies all over the place!! Sorry all. I’m gonna take a break and come back later with iPad vs phone.

Amanda, I’ll send all three feeding videos in ONE post so you can bookmark if you like.

You know you can’t do rodeo if you’re working at the Yellowstone, Mr. Dutton won’t like it. It’s a good way to get a one way trip to the train station.

@Katrina71 your therapist is coming to meet my friends dog Saturday! Thank you so much for helping me help her! She's so sad to have to rehome her but she feels good now that she might get to be a therapy dog.
That is exactly what I was logging in to ask! She is a good dog Mom. I was hoping it would work out!!!
