They are stunners but shy and reclusive. I typically don’t see mine except feeding time unlike my skunks that are in your face all the time.

My peppermint never ever come out. Must think the octopus is still in there! They are pretty big too. My fire shrimp is actually out a lot. But will hide if I spook it

it's great though because it is all biodegradable and back to the earth. not much to clean up if you no longer want the garden. I think potatoes would work great in these in colder climates.

You can kind of see in the picture where the bales are spread out on the ground. I told my kids to start dumping our kitchen waste on the straw. It'll all rot down together and eventually I'll till it in to improve the soil. When I set up the garden I roll out plastic sheet (4000 ft cost me $80, I still have 3800 ft or so) between the bales. When the season is over, the plastic fits easily into the trash, likewise the strings from the bales.

And let’s not forget straw is important and not hay. Hay causes weeds.

Used coffee grounds are great spread around tomato plants!
